CTLI Lunch and Learn: PERMA in Pedagogy
Title: PERMA in Pedagogy
Presenter: Erika Williams, Assistant Professor of Psychology
Location: Education 303
Time: 11:00AM - 12:00PM
Description: Within the classroom, how can we help students to cultivate their talents, to have pleasurable experiences, and to contribute meaningfully? This presentation seeks to answer this question through the lens of Dr. Martin Seligman’s PERMA model (2011), which emphasizes the five pillars of positive psychology: positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment. Students’ well- being within and outside of the classroom is multidimensional. As such, it is essential that we approach their learning from a multidimensional perspective, allowing us to draw students’ attention and to keep them engaged. Increasing students’ motivation and level of engagement are vital to deep learning and enhanced student outcomes (Konopka et al., 2015).
